The Municipal Administration and Urban Development decided to establish four Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and sanction of Rs 82.23 crore for their maintenance.
While two STPs of 9 million litre per day (MLD ) capacity will come up at the Himayat Sagar, two more STPs of 11 MLD capacity will come up at the Osman Sagar.
The Managing Director, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has engaged the services of NCPE Infrastructure India (P) Limited, Hyderabad, to prepare a comprehensive plan for complete abatement of sewage pollution in the twin reservoirs of Osmansagar and Himayatsagar by ensuring that the sewerage generated in the catchment areas of these two reservoirs, including for the projected population for next 30 years is planned.
The objective is to identify the locations and undertake construction of required STPs and establishing diversion channels, so that the treated water is taken downstream without letting the twin reservoirs getting polluted.
Earlier, the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar accounted for 27.59 per cent of the installed capacity of drinking water and presently the drawals dependability of these reservoirs is less than 1.25 per cent and they are no longer a source of drinking water.
STPs of 11 MLD per day capacity with associated components of Interception Weir will be maintained at a total cost of Rs 43.02 crore. The separate provision towards the consultant fee of Rs 1.14 crore is added to the project cost by the consultants which will be reimbursable by Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, said the release.
