District Collector P Ranjit Basha said that the Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) should provide more services and more benefits to the farmers.
The Collector held a meeting and reviewed the services of FPO which is being organized under the NABARD to provide services to the farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector asked the officials to inspect the FPOs at the field level. He said that 17 FPOs are functioning under the NABARD in the district, adding that 40 FPOs are running in the district under the EFERT organisation. He said that not less than 350 farmers are members of each association.
The Collector said that the aim is to establish 10,000 FPOs in AP under the auspices of NABARD. In addition, the officials of the concerned department and the bank officials should cooperate. The Collector suggested that new clusters should be established in Kollur, Parchur, Vemuru, Martur, and Addanki areas.
“NABARD will provide financial assistance of Rs 25 lakhs to each newly formed FPO and the funds should be utilized properly,” the Collector made it clear.
Collector Ranjit Basha suggested that a clear report should be submitted on them and the officials of the relevant departments should monitor the feasibility of forming new associations, products, and marketing aspects coming from them.
NABARD DDM Sarath, LDM Krishna Naik, Animal Husbandry Department Officer Dr. Hanumantha Rao, Fisheries Department Officer P Suresh, Cooperation Department Officer Rama Rao, Horticulture Department Assistant Director J. Jennamma, and other officials were present.
