Minister for Finance T Harish Rao on Tuesday said that the Telangana movement, led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, drew inspiration from freedom fighters. “Under the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister, we rebuilt Telangana,” he asserted.

Addressing a function, shortly after hoisting the national flag on Independence Day here, the Minister said that every citizen would remember the sacrifices of many freedom fighters who laid down their lives fighting for India’s independence. He recalled the sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, and Bhagat Singh to free the country from the shackles of colonial rule. He also recalled the valuable contributions of Dr BR Ambedkar in drafting the Constitution.

While saying that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has rebuilt the youngest State, Telangana, under the leadership of KCR, Harish Rao said Telangana State set an example for the nation in the implementation of developmental activities and welfare schemes. The welfare schemes were being implemented successfully for the welfare of the poor. The Telangana State has fulfilled three promises, such as a share in water, employment and funds. The three objectives were taken up during the movement for the separate Telangana States, he said.

Turning to the development of his home constituency, Harish Rao said that Siddipet had made rapid strides in development. The district was now blessed with an irrigation facility through Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. He recalled that the successive government in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh failed to give importance to the agriculture sector. Now, in the new State of Telangana, agriculture was transformed into a festival of joy. Some leaders in the past described agriculture as a waste exercise. Now, the same leaders praised the Telangana government for transforming the agriculture sector, he said.

In the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, power was supplied to farmers at midnight and it led to wilting of plants. The Telangana government has now been providing round-the-clock free power to the farmers, he said and added that the farmers are growing three crops a rear.
District Collector Prashant Jeevan Patil, Police Commissioner N Swetha, Zilla Parishad Chairperson V Roja Sharma and others were present.
