A few names stand out in the breaking world, like Bboy Pappu. His journey, marked by resilience and an undying passion for the art form, shines as a beacon of hope for Manipur’s breaking culture. Despite the challenges, his story is one of perseverance and unyielding dedication.
Reflecting on the current state of breaking, Pappu Khundrakpam acknowledges the progress but also points out the limited improvement. “There has been an increase, a rise, but there is very little improvement,” he says. When asked about the program Red Bull BC One and its impact on breaking culture, Pappu highlights its motivational benefits. “Because there is BC One, we want to practice every day. We have motivation because of this,” he shares.
His excitement about the opportunities brought by BC One is palpable. “Yes, we have been waiting for this chance and I am very excited,” he says with immense excitement. However, he also notes the lack of recent competitions, mentioning the absence of breaking battles. “In recent times, there haven’t been many competitions in my hometown. There are no battles happening here. We can’t publicly have ‘breaking battles,’ so we have to go outside and perform. This is a struggle,” he explains.
Despite these hardships, Pappu and his peers remain committed to their craft. When asked about their motivation and how they promote breaking in states like Manipur, Pappu’s response is resolute. “We are Red Bull. We keep waiting for battles and we are now preparing for them,” he states, emphasising their unwavering dedication.
Balancing his pursuits in engineering and breaking, Pappu has clear personal goals. “Both of them are my priorities. I also want to become an engineer. I used to work before and I want to invest and grow in order to do well in that field too,” he says, showcasing his ambition and determination.
Looking ahead, the breaking star has a hopeful vision for breaking in Manipur. “I do see people doing their best; children are also actively participating. With this spirit, I think my vision for Manipur’s breaking popularity will become a reality,” he concludes. He notes the growing interest among young kids, who have started teaching others, and mentions an upcoming small battle in Manipur as a sign of progress. “There will be progress,” he affirms, filled with optimism.
Bboy Pappu’s story is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. His commitment to breaking, despite the obstacles, inspires a new generation of dancers in Manipur. As he continues to balance his dual pursuits, his vision for the future of breaking in his state is one of hope and growth.
