Former MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao has reiterated his unwavering commitment to safeguard
the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP), a cornerstone of the city’s industrial landscape. On
Saturday, Rao convened a crucial meeting with the leaders of the Steel Plant Protection
Struggle Committee, underscoring the urgency of preserving the plant’s legacy and
importance to the region.
The meeting saw the participation of key figures including former minister Bandaru
Satyanarayana Murthy, MLC Duvwarapu Rama Rao, and Palla Srinivas, signalling a united front in addressing the challenges facing the steel plant’s future. Rao, addressing the gathering, emphasized the pivotal role of the steel plant in earning Visakhapatnam the
moniker of ‘steel city.’ He highlighted the need for concerted efforts to thwart any potential
threats looming over the plant’s operations.
Expressing his discontent with the current state of affairs, Rao lamented the lack of cooperation from Chief Minister Jagan and the ruling YSRCP government towards safeguardng the steel plant. He criticized the government’s perceived apathy, citing a lack of meaningful action despite possessing a majority in the parliament.
Rao’s resignation from the MLA post, he clarified, was a strategic move aimed at galvanizing support for the cause. He believed that his resignation would amplify the urgency of the situation and draw attention to the pressing need for action.
Moreover, Rao vowed to integrate the mission of protecting the steel plant into the upcoming election manifesto of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), reaffirming his commitment to championing the cause through political channels.
However, Rao expressed frustration over the handling of his resignation by the Jagan government, alleging malicious intent in accepting it to potentially sway upcoming elections.
He revealed plans to challenge the decision in court, seeking the right to vote in the Rajya
Sabha elections despite his resignation. As the political landscape simmers with tensions
surrounding the fate of the steel plant, Rao’s steadfast determination serves as a beacon of
hope for Visakhapatnam’s industrial community and its residents. The upcoming days
are poised to witness further developments as stakeholders navigate the intricate web of
politics and policy to safeguard the legacy of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP).
