GHMC pollsTickets only for strong leaders: Ponnam

The Congress will give party tickets to strong leaders during the upcoming GHMC elections, Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said.
He said the party will recognize leaders working at the field level and will give tickets to leaders who mingle with people.
Addressing the Hyderabad Congress review meeting on GHMC elections on Monday, Ponnam suggested that leaders should be close to caste organizations in Hyderabad city. The Minister said the party would recommend suitable leaders for nominated posts in Hyderabad.
“The Congress should become strong in Hyderabad by the time of GHMC elections and only then can the party win elections. Hyderabad Congress leaders should take the GHMC elections as a matter of prestige as it is very important for the party. Congress leaders should take the party’s welfare programmes to people effectively,” he said.
AICC in-charge General Secretary Deepa Das Munshi appealed to Hyderabad leaders to win back the party’s lost sheen. The party will become strong if all leaders and activists work together in Hyderabad, he said.
“Our party which is in power in the state should also gain a foothold in the GHMC area. Leaders will not get results if they work in a non-serious manner. Division-wise meetings should be held to strengthen the party. Youth and women should participate in all meetings,” he said.
TPCC chief B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said the party’s target is to win a majority of seats in the GHMC elections.
He said that BRS leaders grabbed lands in Hyderabad as they liked during their 10-year rule. Hundreds of tanks and lakes were grabbed, he said and added that HYDRAA’s objective is to end land grabbing.
He said that some parties won a majority by inciting people using caste and religion during the last GHMC elections.
