GHMC to spend Rs1,350 cr for development of roads

The GHMC has earmarked Rs 1,350 crore for strategic road development programme (SRDP) in its budget for 2023-24. It is going to spend an additional Rs 700 crore for the land acquisition during the year.

There are roads up to a length of 9,013 km under the limits of the GHMC, including black top roads up to a distance of 2,846 km. The total length of CC roads in the city is put at 6,167 km.
The GHMC spent Rs 1,018,19 crore during 2021-22 and 2022-2023 for the maintenance of the roads.

Meanwhile, the GHMC officials have been making arrangements for undertaking the second phase of the SRDP with Rs 11,000 crore. Accordingly, the GHMC has earmarked Rs 1,350 crore in its annual budget for the programme.

The civic body spent at least Rs 2,234.92 crore for the land acquisition till September this year since 2021-2022. It paid a record compensation of Rs 1,808 crore for the land acquired in 2021-22 for implementing SRDP.

In tune with the growing traffic in the city, the state government will develop fly-overs, road-over-bridges and road-under-passes on a large scale.
