The Justice PC Ghose Commission, appointed to investigate the shortcomings in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), has completed its inquiry and is in the final stages of preparing its report for submission to the Telangana Government.

Interestingly, the commission initially considered summoning former BRS leaders like KCR, Harish Rao and Eatela Rajender for questioning. However, it later decided there was no need to call them at this stage, citing the current probe status.

The commission’s probe focused on structural and procedural lapses in the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages, which have witnessed significant damage and technical defects.

The investigation, which began last year, scrutinised the design, construction quality, and maintenance of the barrages. The commission questioned engineers, senior officials and technical staff, while also reviewing financial and procedural aspects. Affidavits were collected and cross-examinations conducted to substantiate claims.

In addition to these inquiries, the commission also reviewed reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the Vigilance Department, and the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA). All findings are being incorporated into the final report.

The report is expected to be submitted to the state government in the third week of May after final touches are made. The commission’s findings are likely to play a pivotal role in shaping future accountability measures and policy corrections regarding major irrigation projects in Telangana.
