Giving existing figures a new spin

British statesman George Canning once said famously: “I can prove anything by statistics except the truth”. Politicians do swallow money and go away when regimes change. But babus remain to do the dishes and clean up the entire cutlery for the new regime.  No wonder, bureaucrats have become tools for the slew of ‘exposes’ by the new Congress government in Telangana. Ministers are holding pressers alleging massive ‘scams’ in projects after projects, whether launched or modified under the erstwhile BRS government. But the devil lies in the details served by the very same bureaucrats. Newshounds look askance at these numbers that have been given a spin and question their credibility, considering that the officials involved are the same — then and now. Asked what action you would take, Uttam Kumar Reddy blurted out: “eventually we will take action and move out officers”.
