Hyderabad: The Telangana government has sounded the first alert as the Godavari River is in spate at Bhadrachalam due to the heavy rains in the catchment areas of the Godavari basin. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao gave instructions to Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari regarding the emergency measures to be taken in the rain-hit areas. The government machinery including the police has been asked to be on high alert and all concerned departments have been asked to take immediate action. The CM asked the officials to be prepared to carry out relief measures on a war footing and to shift people to safer areas from places which are likely to be flooded in Bhadrachalam.KCR said that the services of officials who discharged their duties efficiently during earlier floods will be utilized. The CM ordered Anudeep Durishetti, who is currently the Collector of Hyderabad, to leave immediately for Bhadrachalam and take relief measures depending on the situation.

It may be mentioned here that last week Anudeep was posted as Hyderabad Collector after he was transferred from Bhadrachalam. He handled the earlier floods.

The Chief Minister said the government has also set up control rooms in MRO offices and at the Collectorate in addition to the Secretariat. The CM ordered to make helicopters available to the NDRF for relief operations. As per the instructions of the CM, the authorities have made all arrangements including setting up control rooms and providing helicopters for rescue and relief operations in Bhadrachalam.

The CM ordered officials of relevant departments like Revenue, Panchayati Raj, the Medical and Health Department and Disaster Management to be alert and to take immediate action to provide relief. He also directed the Chief Secretary to monitor the situation. The government is ready to face any situation, the CM said.

Meanwhile, the twin reservoirs in the city are brimming and about to touch FTL. The water level at Osman Sagar is 1,784 ft. while the FTL is 1,790 ft. The FTL of Himayat Sagar is 1,763.5 ft. while the water level is 1760 ft.

The water level is gradually increasing at the Kandakurti Triveni Sangam in Nizamabad district. The Godavari catchment area has become flooded due to rains in the last four to five days. At Kandakurti on Thursday evening, the Godavari River was flowing heavily downstream.

The Telangana Jeevdhara Sriramsagar Project is flooded from the upper reaches. Along with that, heavy rains are falling in the project’s surrounding areas. On Thursday afternoon the project received 59,165 cusecs of water. The full water level of SRSP is 1,091 feet. At present there is 1,073.6 feet of water in the project. The full capacity of the reservoir is 90.3 TMC. At present, 36.52 TMC of water is being stored at the reservoir.
