Godavari river bund being strengthened: Collector

West Godavari district Collector C Naga Rani has said that the embankment of river Godavari is being strengthened to withstand even 25 lakh cusecs of flood water.
The Collector inspected the works of Godavari river bund at various places at Narasapuram on Wednesday.  She inquired with the irrigation officials about the ongoing works. She inspected the breaches to the bund which took place during the last floods season.
She directed the officials to expedite the works and ordered them not to compromise on quality. This is the first visit of the river Godavari bunds to Naga Rani after taking charge as Collector.
Later talking to the media, the Collector said that the river embankment Godavari breached when 22 lakh cusecs of flood flow in 2022 floods. The works to strengthen the Godavari river bund had been taken up and so far revetment works to a length of 250 meters had been completed at a cost of Rs 24 crore.
“Now the embankment of river Godavari is being strengthened such that it can withstand even 24 lakh cusecs of flood water,” the Collector made it clear. Collector Naga Rani said that as per the metrological forecast, the river Godavari receives heavy floods during the months of July due to heavy rains in the catchment areas.
She said that the work for strengthening the embankment of the river Godavari is being carried out under the supervision of the quality control wing. RDO M Achyut Ambarish, DRDA PD MSS Venugopal,Godavari right embankment AE Pawan Kumar and other officials were among those who accompanied the Collector.
Later the Collector visited the Alankruthi lace park at Sitarampuram South and the international lace trade centre located at Rustmbadh. The Collector inquired about the production and sales of the products. She interacted with the women working there.
The women requested the Collector to provide transport and marketing facilities to their products for which the Collector responded positively.  
The Collector exhorted the women to avail the facilities being provided by the government and excel in making the lace products with new designs.
