The Congress party on Tuesday accused the BRS government of cheating the jobless youth by denying them the promised unemployment allowance while offering a meagre Rs 1 lakh loan in its place.
Speaking at a media conference at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin said that each unemployed individual is owed a staggering Rs 1.65 lakh in allowances “The promised allowance, meant to support the jobless youth, has become a distant dream. Instead, BRS leaders are conveniently shifting their focus to a seemingly attractive offer of Rs 1 lakh loan,” he said.
Nizamuddin highlighted that while the loan offer might appear appealing at first glance, it pales in comparison to the much-needed financial assistance that the jobless youth were promised.
The TPCC spokesperson stated that the BRS government has done nothing to address the issue of unemployment among the youth in the last nine years.
He said that BRS leaders are attempting to deceive Dalit, Tribal, Backward Classes (BC), and minority youth by offering loans as a means to gain their support.
Nizamuddin said that the Dalit Bandhu scheme was introduced in 2021 to provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to Scheduled Castes families. However, he said that not even 17,000 out of nearly 17 lakh Scheduled Castes families have received any assistance.
Similarly, he said that the promise of loans for BCs proved to be a deception. He said that the government received more than nine lakh loan applications from BCs in the last nine years, but none of them was granted loans. Instead, the government sought fresh applications and allocated only Rs 500 crore for the scheme, despite needing Rs. 5,288.62 Crore.
Nizamuddin said that minorities had also been cheated by the government’s promises of providing Rs 1 lakh loans. He said that the KCR government received loan applications from 1.54 lakh jobless minority youth in its first tenure but did not provide any financial assistance. Recently, when fresh applications were called, more than 2.20 lakh jobless youth applied for Rs. 1 lakh assistance. None of these applications were even processed, he said.
