The Governor, Dr Tamilisai Sounderarajan, said that Governors too have the right to speak about politics. She said that Governors too have the right to participate in political debates like political leaders.
Dr Tamilasai was responding to the comments of Tamil Nadu BJP President, K. Annamalai, that Governors must stop speaking politics.
It may be recalled that Annamalai mentioned the political developments in Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. He said that Governors must stop conducting press meets regularly.
Dr Tamilisai responded to Annamalai’s comments at the Coimbatore Airport and made it clear that Governors have the right to speak about politics. She said that Governors have the right to express their opinion freely.
Dr Tamilisai attended the concluding ceremony of Sailing Week celebrations as chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tamilisai said that Hussainsagar is a gift for Telangana and that sailors from India as well as abroad practise sailing there. The people and the government have the responsibility to keep Hussainsagar clean, she said.She said that officials used to say that the snakes, fish and frogs used to be seen during sailing in Hussainsagar in the past, but they have now disappeared due to pollution.
She said that she is requesting the government to clean up Hussiansagar immediately. The government has to ensure that there are no problems in Hussainsagar by next year, she said.
The Governor said that Hyderabad has the beautiful Hussainsagar Lake. There are no such lakes in many states. Hussainsagar has produced many talented sailors. Sailors have to sail in waters facing the air, she said.
“I hope Indian sailors will win medals in the next Asian Games and Olympics. I am happy that Manya Reddy from Telangana participated in the Asian Sailing championship. It is not that easy for women to compete in sailing competitions. Women face many challenges in life and sailing teaches several lessons in life,” she said.
