The Telangana Government is targeting to establish 6,000 public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2030.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to clean energy, Principal Secretary for Energy Sandeep Kumar Sultania chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday at the Vidyuth Soudha to review progress and to chalk out a roadmap.
The meeting, attended by officials from DISCOMs, TGREDCO and Charge Point Operators (CPOs), focused on expanding EV charging facilities across Telangana.
The participants welcomed the recent Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) order enhancing contracted load limits for EV chargers, terming it a major facilitator for scaling up the charging network.
The order increased the contracted load under LT Category IX from 56 KW/75 HP to 150 KW/201 HP, which is expected to help new stations meet demand more effectively.
CPOs raised issues regarding metering, allotment of government sites and regulatory clearances. Officials assured them that these concerns were being addressed.
The Principal Secretary asked all stakeholders to improve coordination, enhance the visibility of charging stations on the TGEV App and submit detailed action plans to boost infrastructure growth across the state.
The TGREDCO will soon launch an online portal to receive applications for identifying and allotting government land for new EV charging locations. DISCOMs have been directed to ensure that power connections for new charging stations are released within 15 days of application submission.
Stressing the need for active private sector participation, Sandeep Kumar Sultania urged all stakeholders to contribute towards creating a robust and accessible EV charging ecosystem in Telangana.
“The state’s EV mission will succeed only if there is a collective effort. Together, we can make Telangana a leader in clean and green mobility,” he said.
