Govt announces 15% hike in stipend for medical students in govt colleges

 The State government has approved a 15 per cent increase in stipend and honorarium for all medical students and postgraduate students in Telangana. The hike was sanctioned as part of the promised 15 per cent hike in stipend every two years. The last hike was given in 2021. The enhanced stipend and honorarium will be implemented with retrospective effect from January 1 this year and will benefit students pursuing various medical courses, including MBBS/BDS (house surgeons), postgraduate, degree, postgraduate diploma, MDS, and Super Speciality courses.

 Under the revised scheme, the stipend for house surgeons in medical and dental fields will increase from the existing amount of Rs. 22,527 to Rs. 25,906 per month. For PG degree courses, the first year, the stipend will be enhanced from Rs. 50,686 to Rs. 58,289 per month. Similarly, for the second and third years, the stipend will increase from Rs. 53,503 to Rs. 61,528 and from Rs. 56,319 to Rs. 64,767 per month, respectively.

 Super Speciality courses, including the first, second, and third years, will see an enhancement in stipend from the existing amounts of Rs. 80,500, Rs. 84,525, and Rs. 88,547, respectively, to Rs. 92,575, Rs. 97,204, and Rs. 1,01,829 per month. Senior Residents will also benefit from the revised scheme, with their honorarium being enhanced from Rs. 80,500 to Rs. 92,575 per month.

 The Telangana Junior Doctors Association (T JUDA) expressed their joy and gratitude following the successful passing of the stipend hike file for medical students. They said that their tireless efforts, including numerous meetings and representations, have resulted in this significant accomplishment.

 T JUDA conveyed their gratitude to the Health Minister, T. Harish Rao, and the government of Telangana for their cooperation and support throughout the negotiations. They also thanked Dr K Ramesh Reddy, the Director of Medical Education (DME), for his constant support from the beginning.
