Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will distribute thousands of acres of government land to the poor on December 9, 2024, at a public event in Nagarjunasagar Assembly constituency, Revenue, Information, Public Relations, and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said. Ponguleti made the announcement during an interaction with farmers held in Nellikallu village in Tirumalagiri Sagar Mandal as part of a pilot project aimed at addressing land issues.
The event on December 9 will be the culmination of the government’s efforts to resolve land-related disputes through a new revenue law, the Record of Rights (ROR) Act, which will replace the current system. He emphasised that the new Act is intended to correct the flaws of the 2020 Revenue Act and the Dharani Portal, both of which caused numerous problems for farmers and commoners across the state.
“The 2020 Revenue Act and the Dharani Portal created many problems for farmers and the general public. We are now working on a new, improved revenue law that addresses these issues, and we have taken public opinion into account. This pilot project
in Tirumalagiri Sagar is part of our process to ensure that the new law addresses all land issues effectively,” the Minister said.
As part of the pilot project, the government has been conducting surveys in Tirumalagiri Sagar, where many landowners face discrepancies. Some possess land without official title deeds (pattas or ownership documents), while others have title deeds for land they do not occupy. The surveys aim to provide a permanent resolution to these issues.
Ponguleti said that approximately 13,000 acres in Tirumalagiri Sagar have been identified as having bogus title deeds, and the government is committed to distributing about 3,500 to 4,000 acres of this land to the eligible poor. The Chief Minister will preside over the distribution of these lands at the December 9 event, he said.
“The government’s primary objective is to ensure that government land benefits the poor. We will distribute title deeds to the eligible poor during the public meeting on December 9, where the Chief Minister will personally hand over these land rights,” the Minister added.
Alongside land distribution, Ponguleti also reiterated the government’s commitment to providing Indiramma houses to the poor.
He said that the first phase of the Indiramma housing scheme would begin by the end of October, with 3,500 houses being distributed in all constituencies and 5,000 houses allocated for Nagarjunasagar.
He directed collectors to ensure that previously distributed Indiramma houses, which are still under mortgage, are freed and granted full ownership to beneficiaries.
Former Minister Kunduru Jana Reddy, who was present at the event, praised the government’s initiative. He said that selecting Tirumalagiri Sagar for a pilot project to correct flaws in the old revenue law and Dharani portal is a welcome move.
“Revenue officials have been working tirelessly for the past two months to resolve land issues here. I fully support this initiative and will cooperate in any way I can,” he said.
MLA Bhathula Lakshmareddy, who was also present at the function, urged the government to conduct similar surveys in Adavidevulapally and Dameracherla mandals, where farmers face difficulties
