Telangana has become the first state in the country to offer an accident insurance cover of over Rs 1 crore to electricity workers, a move hailed as a historic milestone by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu.

Speaking at the Praja Bhavan on Monday, Bhatti said this step reflects the compassion and foresight of the Indiramma government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

He was addressing the gathering during the ceremonial handing over of a cheque of Rs 1 crore to the family of Jogun Naresh, a worker who lost his life while on duty with the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL).

Along with the compensation, a compassionate appointment letter in the electricity department was given to Naresh’s wife, Ramesh Shrimati.

“This is not just financial support; it is a strong message that our government stands with every worker and their families,” Bhatti said.

He recalled that such large-scale welfare initiatives were unimaginable under previous admins and credited the Congress Government for bringing in meaningful, worker-centric reforms.
He explained that the accident insurance model was first introduced in SCCL and has now been extended to all electricity departments.

“This combination of Rs 1 crore insurance and job assurance ensures both immediate relief and long-term support to families. It also sends a clear signal to all workers that the government values their contributions and sacrifices,” he added.

Bhatti urged employees of the electricity department to continue serving the public with commitment and assured them that their safety and well-being would always remain a top priority. “When you know the government stands behind you, you are inspired to work with greater confidence,” he said.

He also lauded NPDCL CMD Varun Reddy for effectively executing the government’s welfare plans and extended appreciation to the banking and electricity officials involved in facilitating the insurance process.
