The Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), P Narayana, emphasised that detailed information about the socioeconomic status of citizens is essential for the successful implementation of welfare and development schemes targeting underprivileged communities. He added that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed to supporting members of DWACRA and MEPMA.
Addressing attendees at a one-day training programme on the MEMPA Self Help Groups (SHG) profiling app at the Amaravati Convention Hall in Vijayawada, Minister Narayana spoke about the State government’s goal to double the income of each citizen. He underscored the role of data profiling in ensuring that welfare programmes are directed to the people who need them most, based on a thorough understanding of their social and economic conditions. He stated that the government will begin implementing schemes based on this data in January, after completing the data collection by December.
Narayana criticised the previous administration for neglecting Self Help Groups and failing to deliver TIDCO houses meant for low-income families. He also mentioned that the CM plans to establish shopping complexes to generate employment for SHG members, facilitating financial independence for these groups. Narayana further noted that “unlike the identification system in America, India relies on Aadhaar numbers for comprehensive data collection, which is crucial for policy-making”.
He added that new tenders for capital projects in Amaravati will be issued with Cabinet approval in the coming months after previous tenders expired without action. The new process aims to commence capital works by January. The event was attended by MEPMA Managing Director Tej Bharat, project directors from across the State, and other officials.
