Govt releases funds towards relief for crop loss

The State government on Thursday released Rs 4, 04, 77,000 towards compensation to farmers who lost their crops due to unseasonal rains in the district, according to District Collector A Sharat.

The Collector was holding a meeting with the officials of the Agriculture Department and bankers at the District Collectorate here.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharat said that there was widespread damage to crops due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms in March this year. The government announced compensation at the rate of Rs 10,000 an acre. A total of 3,093 farmers lost their crops in 4,047.28 acres in the district. The compensation amount would be credited to the accounts of the eligible farmers, he said. He directed the officials of the Agriculture Department to make foolproof arrangements to credit the compensation amount to the accounts of the farmers. He appealed to the bankers to ensure that the compensation amount is paid to the farmers without any delay.

Additional Collector Madhuri, District Revenue Officer Nagesh, Joint Director of Agriculture Narasimha Rao, the officials of the State Bank of India, APGVB, DCCB, Canara Bank, Union Bank of India and others were present.
