Govt schools to have solar power units to reduce power bill burden

Must read

The Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) has decided to fix solar panels in 1168 government schools in undivided Medak and Vikarabaddistricts to conserve electricity and to greatly reduce the bourgeoning power bills in educational institutions.
Depending on the power consumptions of these educational institutions, 2 KV, 3 KV, 5 KV and 10 KV photo voltaic solar panels  on the roof tops of these schools. Prior to grounding of the units, the TSREDCO officials visit the schools.
They will invite tenders and take steps to ground these units, according to reports. Once the grounding of these units is through, the power supply will be continuous.
The grid-connected solar PV system will be installed in shortlisted schools. Solar panels, invertors, net meter, cable systems will be linked to power grid so that the surplus power generated by schools can be sold to the electricity department and help generate revenue by schools. To make good use of the facility, the schools should clear their power bill dues to the electricity department.
The ZP High School at Indira Nagar in Siddipet got a 5 KV solar power system in 2019. Earlier, the school used to get Rs 1.20 lakh towards power bill. However, the school now saves Rs 1 lakh per year by way of power bills.
Most of the funds being released to schools are sufficient to pay power bills. The burden of power bills is heavy in ZP high schools. As the grant of funds is delayed by the government, the power bills dues are mounting every year.
The BRS regime as part of Manavooru-Mana Badi provided solar power generating units to schools. Accordingly, 2 KW solar units would be installed in government primary schools and 5 KW units in upper primary and ZP high schools. In Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and Model schools, junior colleges and residential schools, where the power use is comparatively high, will be provided with 10 KW solar power units.
