Govt to honour Class 10, Intermediate exam toppers

Education Minister Botcha Satyanarayana has said that the government is going to honour the toppers in Class 10 and Intermediate exams, who studied in government institutions, with cash incentives and merit certificates from this year onwards.

He addressed the media on Wednesday at the Samagra Siksha office and said that the top three students at the district-level would be honoured with cash prizes of Rs.50,000, Rs.30,000 and Rs.10,000 along with medals and certificates. Those who bag the first three positions at the State-level will be honoured with medals and certificates along with cash prizes of Rs.1 lakh, Rs.75,000 and Rs.50000. He informed that at the constituency-level, the toppers will be honoured with a medal and a certificate and a memento to the headmaster of that school. The parents of the students will also be felicitated on the same stage.

The award presentation ceremony will be held at the constituency-level on May 23,Ā at the district-level on May 27 and at the State-level on May 31.Ā A total of 2,831 students of Class 10 and the Intermediate level will be felicitated in this three-tier programme.

The minister said that with the revolutionary reforms and changes undertaken by the State government in the education sector, the academic standards in government schools and colleges have increased. The cash prizes for the students are meant for making them compete with the world.Ā He said that the government was taking steps to make every parent look towards government schools and colleges instead of private institutions.
