Taking a step closer to adopting the Ward Administration System in Hyderabad, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao held a detailed review meeting with officials to comprehensively discuss the introduction of the new system.
The meeting was held at the Secretariat on Wednesday and the Minister spoke about the government’s objectives and the aims of the new system.
Recalling the series of steps taken under the leadership of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to decentralise governance and take administration closer to the people, KTR said that new districts, revenue divisions and mandals were created for this.
Along with them, the government was successful in bridging the gap between the people and the administration through the newly formed Municipalities and Gram Panchayats. KTR said that the Ward Administration System will be introduced to implement the vision of KCR.
Rather than going all the way to circle or zonal offices, the new system will help people to approach ward offices located nearby to get their work done, file complaints and give suggestions to the government, the Minister said.
He said that this will help the government to know people’s grievances quickly and to resolve them.
Ward offices will be established in all 150 wards of GHMC in Hyderabad. Around 10 officers will be available at ward offices. An official of the Assistant Municipal Commissioner cadre will be in-charge of the ward governance system.
Officials from the sanitation, power supply, road maintenance, entomology wing, veterinary wing, town planning, water board and other wings would be reporting to him. Apart from implementing the government’s programmes, they will also accept complaints from the public and resolve them.
KTR directed officials to put in place the Ward Administration System by the end of May and to set up teams which will be assigned to ward offices. They have to be trained in the objectives, aims, the way it will function and other aspects.
He asked officials to ensure that the designs of ward offices are uniform and citizen-friendly. He said that the ward offices have to be interconnected using technology and must also use social media.
KTR said that the Ward Administration System will ensure that there are no delays in delivering municipal services to people.
MA&UD Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar, HMWSSB Managing Director Dana Kishore, GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar and the heads of other departments attended the meeting.
