Govt transfers officials as elections approach

The BRS government has speeded up granting promotions and ordering transfers of employees, particularly in the police and revenue departments.

This exercise has been taking place for the last 10 days intensively following the direction of the Election Commission that the process will be completed by August 31.The

government has been transferring police and revenue officials who play a key role in elections first. On Sunday itself, the BRS government transferred 163 police inspectors in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand issued orders regarding this.

On this day, 24 DSPs were also transferred.

DGP Anjani Kumar has issued orders to this effect. The Central Election Commission has directed to complete the process of transfers as per the Election Code by August 31.

In this background, massive transfers are taking place for a few days. DSPs who worked in the same district for three years and those working in their own district were also transferred.

Telangana Udyogula Sangam Honorary Chairman A. Padma Chary told ‘The Pioneer’ that the government has to mandatorily do this exercise before elections as there are employees working at one place for more than three years.

He said that the government speeded up the process as it has to take permission from the Election Commission to do the same thing if election code comes into force and so the government has intensified the exercise as it is not a minor process.

The process will take a lot of time and so the government has intensified the process, he said.

He said that the government also considers the appeals of employees regarding transfers and will include their names in the transfer list.

One political analyst said that it is common for ruling parties to transfer officials on priority basis to protect their interests.

The ruling party transfers employees as per the requests of its MLAs, he said.
