Govt will help families of stampede victims: Kakani

Minister for Agriculture Kakani Govardhan Reddy reiterated that all needed help would be extended to the kin of those who died in the stampede that took place at Kandukur during the Chandrababu Naidu road-show.

The minister, flanked by district Collector KVN Chakradhar and MLA Manughunta Mahidhar Reddy, handed over Rs 2 lakh ex gratia cheques to the eight bereaved families in the sub-collector’s office in Kandukur on Friday.

Talking to the media on the occasion, the ministers said that 8 people died in the stampede incident that happened in Kandukur on December 28. The government would stand by the families, he said.

The minister said that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to each of the deceased families. Immediately after the accident, the Chief Minister of the state responded and alerted the officials and local legislators and directed them to provide assistance to the victims and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.

Kakani Govardhan Reddy consoled the bereaved family members and assured them that the government would support them in all ways. He said that financial assistance was provided today after the completion of funerals after understanding their mental condition. He said that he had directed the police to complete the investigation expedite and take action against who are responsible for the incident.
