Govt will prosecute those involved in power sector irregularities

Declaring that the BRS government behaved irresponsibly throwing the power sector into a mess, the Congress MLA representing Munugode, Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, said the Congress government will certainly prosecute those involved in irregularities in the power sector.
Initiating the discussion on demands in the Assembly on Monday, Raj Gopal asked former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to reveal why he did not come to the Assembly when a discussion was going on about the power sector.
“BRS MLAs say that they are enough to tackle the Congress government. Everybody knows the status of BRS MLAs. Why was KCR made the Leader of the Opposition? Someone has to take the Leader of the Opposition post instead of KCR,” he said.
Raj Gopal said the government is conducting a probe into power sector irregularities after appointing an inquiry commission. He said the BRS government looted thousands of crores through its deals.
Raj Gopal said that he had said in the year 2018 that the Yadadri Power Plant is beneficial. But the government now has to spend Rs 11,000 crore more to finish construction of the Yadadri Power Plant.
The Division Act says that a power plant should be established at Ramagundam but why did the BRS government construct the power plant in Nalgonda district which is 250 km away from SCCL from where coal comes to the Yadadri power plant. Instead of constructing the Yadadri Power Plant the government could have purchased power from Chhattisgarh at a lesser cost, he said.
Raj Gopal said the BRS government had used subcritical technology although supercritical technology was available when the Bhadradri and Yadadri power projects were launched. He said that the government had nominated contractors for constructing the power plant instead of inviting global tenders. The BRS government increased estimates as it liked and nominated BHEL to execute the Rs 20,000 crore project.
Raj Gopal said the power sector fell into neck deep debts due to the BRS government. But still BRS MLAs are speaking as they liked instead of cooperating with the government, he said and added that KCR takes decisions only if they yield political dividends.
