Govt’s aim is to uplift the poor

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on Saturday, gave a call to those who have become financially stable with the help of government policies to assist the poor in society and support them to grow strong.

The Chief Minister launched the ‘Matsyakarula Sevalo’ (in service of the fishermen) scheme at Budagatkapalem of Etcherla Assembly segment in Srikakulam district. Later, addressing the Praja Vedika programme on Zero Poverty-P4, Chandrababu Naidu said that poverty should be eliminated completely. “We have launched the programme for the uplift of the poor in every way by not only providing government schemes, but also by extending assistance through Margadarsi’ (mentors),” he said.

Making it clear that regular reviews will be conducted on how the mentors are extending help to the families which they have adopted, the Chief Minister said that his sole aim is to see to it that the State gets rid of poverty completely by 2029. He felt that there will be no economic imbalances if those who have come up financially come to the rescue of the poor. Later, the Chief Minister felicitated the Margadarsis.

Alupu Latchamma, who is selected for Bangaru Kutumbam, said that her husband went to Gujarat in search of livelihood. She is staying at home here to look after their children. Another person, Surada Appanna said that his parents died long ago, and his sister got married 15 years ago. But her husband deserted her within two years of her marriage as she had some mental disorder. His sister and her children are now staying with him and a total eight persons, including his wife and brother are staying under a common roof, he said and made an appeal to sanction pension to his sister.

Reacting to this, the Chief Minister promised to not only sanction pensions to his sister but also build a house.

Guripudi Sriram Murthy, who is a Margadarsi, said that he superannuated as a teacher and established a college with degree, post-graduate, diploma, agriculture and veterinary courses. He promised to adopt 25 families and set up a computer at the house of Appanna to train his wife as an operator. After training, she will be provided a job in the agricultural college, besides providing free education to their children in their institutions.

Another Margadarsi, PVS Ram Mohan, said that he came from a middle-class farmer family and set up a company abroad when Chandrababu had taken up the IT skill development programme between 1995 and 2004. A healthcare industry, too, was established at Pydibheemavaram in 2018 which supplied oxygen during Covid.

He promised to extend financial assistance to Atchemma’s family and adopt 20 families. Toolkits and boats will be supplied to fishermen, and their children will be extended all kinds of help in education, he said.
