The Union Cabinet Secretary, Rajiv Gauba, announced that the grand finale of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ will take place at Kartavya Padh in Delhi on August 29 and 30. In preparation for the occasion, a video conference was held on Saturday, during which the Cabinet Secretary discussed the arrangements for the closing ceremony with the chief secretaries of various states and Union Territories.
The ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, which commenced on March 12, 2021, to commemorate the 75 years of India’s Independence, has been an immense success. Now, the central government proposes to conclude the celebrations with a grand and fitting event on August 29 and 30.
During the video conference, Rajiv Gauba urged the chief secretaries to organise programmes in 2.50 lakh Gram Panchayats, 7,500 blocks, 90,000 municipalities, and corporations. These programs are to be held from August 9 to 15, under the theme ‘Meri Matti Mera Desh’. The aim is to show heartfelt solidarity and pay tribute to the freedom fighters, retired personnel of the defense forces, central armed reserve police, and state police forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Additionally, commemorative plaques will be installed at various drinking water sources across these locations. Furthermore, flag hoisting and singing of the national anthem will be organized as part of the celebrations.
Rajeev Gauba emphasised the importance of environmental conservation and suggested planting at least 75 seedlings in each Panchayat under the initiative ‘Vasudha Vandan’. Another significant aspect of the celebration involves honoring the families of martyrs of freedom fighters and defense forces in accordance with local customs and traditions under the initiative ‘Veeran Ka Vandan’.
To symbolise unity and national pride, young volunteers from each Panchayat will collect soil in kalashams, which will then be brought to the block level. Subsequently, 7500 young volunteers will carry these kalashams to the national capital.
The soil collected by the Kalashams will be used to build a monument between August 21-26 at the location designated by Kartavya Padh. This monument will stand as a testament to the collective efforts and sacrifices of the people.
Rajiv Gauba also stressed the importance of spreading awareness about the closing ceremony of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava on a large scale through various media channels. He conveyed his congratulations to the State Governments and Union Territories for the successful implementation of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programme. Later, he engaged in detailed discussions with the chief secretaries regarding various aspects of the closing ceremony.
