During the review meeting on Wednesday, the Central government gave the green signal to the Amaravati-Hyderabad Greenfield Expressway. The Ministry of Roads and Highways was instructed to begin work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the highway. The government also expedited the approval process for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Telangana’s northern section. Furthermore, the Home Ministry directed the Petroleum Department to examine opportunities for establishing another refinery in AP, as requested by the State government.
The Central government has turned its focus on unresolved issues in the Andhra Pradesh (AP) Reorganisation Act, addressing various concerns related to both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. On February 3, a high-level meeting was chaired by Govind Mohan, Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, with officials from 15 different departments. The meeting included senior officials from departments such as Roads and Highways, Steel, Coal, Agriculture, Petroleum, and Railways, among others. Discussions focused on pending issues related to the bifurcation of the two States and proposals from both the AP and Telangana governments. Following the meeting, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent the meeting minutes to the Chief Secretaries of AP and Telangana.
The Ministry of Railways was directed to intensify efforts to ensure that railway zone operations centred around Visakhapatnam begin within the next two years.
Proposals for creating corridors linking Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, Kurnool and Hyderabad were also reviewed, with positive recommendations to proceed with the plans.
Additionally, the Central government addressed pending funds meant for backward areas in AP, directing officials to take necessary actions for their release. The Ministry of Home Affairs also recommended discussions with NITI Aayog regarding the allocation of these funds to Telangana.
This marks a significant step forward in the implementation of key projects and the resolution of pending matters from the AP Reorganisation Act.
