Senior IPS officer Harish Kumar Gupta officially took charge as the full-time Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh at a ceremony held at the state police headquarters in Mangalagiri. A 1992-batch officer, Gupta had earlier served as Director General of Vigilance and held additional charge as in-charge DGP.
His appointment was finalised after UPSC shortlisted candidates, selecting him for a fixed two-year tenure. Gupta briefly served as DGP during the 2024 general elections. Following the retirement of Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, he resumed charge in February and has now been confirmed as the state’s top police officer.
