Senior IPS officer Harish Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the Director General of Police (Head of Police Force) for Andhra Pradesh, with a fixed two-year tenure as per Supreme Court guidelines.
A 1992-batch officer, Gupta has been holding the DGP post on full additional charge since February 2025. He also serves as Director General, Vigilance and Enforcement, and Ex-Officio Principal Secretary in the General Administration (V&E) Department.
Although due for retirement in August 2025, the state government has extended his service to ensure continuity in leadership. The UPSC had recommended his name after a panel of eligible officers was evaluated on merit and experience. The state cabinet approved his appointment based on service records.
