GV Prakash’s debut as producer ends in disaster

Must read

GV Prakash Kumar, a well-known music composer with over 100 films to his credit, recently made his debut as a producer with Kingston, which was released on March 7. The film also marked his 25th appearance as an actor. Prakash had high hopes for this project, calling it one of his most ambitious films.
Kingston is a fantasy thriller with a horror backdrop, featuring extensive graphics and a significantly higher budget compared to his previous films. Marketed as a sea-adventure thriller, the makers claimed it was a concept never explored before in Indian cinema.
However, despite the hype, Kingston failed to make an impact from day one. The film opened to disastrous box office numbers in both Telugu and Tamil markets. Audiences outright rejected it, and even the weekend collections showed no improvement. Critics also gave the film poor reviews, citing a confusing narrative structure with excessive flashback sequences. With such a weak performance, the film is now poised to incur significant losses for its makers.
