The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has earned accolades at the state level for its exemplary work in implementing the PM SVANidhi Scheme for the 2023-24 period. This achievement was acknowledged in an award ceremony held on Tuesday at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada, where GVMC Commissioner Dr  P Sampath Kumar accepted the award from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister (MAUD) P. Narayana.
According to GVMC’s Urban Community Development (UCD) Project Director PM Sathyaveni, the recognition comes as a result of the consistent efforts and dedication of GVMC’s officers and employees who, under the Commissioner’s guidance, have effectively facilitated the PM Swanidhi scheme. “The GVMC team has worked tirelessly to ensure smooth processing of over 20,697 applications in three phases, providing crucial financial support to local street vendors,” Sathyaveni shared.
Dr Sampath Kumar expressed pride in GVMC’s achievement, stating, “This award reflects our commitment to empowering street vendors and uplifting the community. We are honoured to be recognised as the best performer in the implementation of this scheme.”
Minister Narayana commended GVMC’s efforts, highlighting their role in ensuring that the benefits of the scheme reach the intended beneficiaries.
“GVMC’s initiative serves as a model for effective execution of state government programs at the grassroots level,” he said.
The award ceremony was attended by several notable officials, including MEPMA Mission Director N Tej Bharat, who lauded the collaborative efforts that contributed to this accomplishment.
