The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is accelerating efforts to complete park renovation projects across the city, aiming to open them to the public by December 15. This initiative aligns with GVMC’s commitment to enhancing the livability and recreational opportunities for Visakhapatnam residents.
GVMC Commissioner C M Saikanth Varma recently conducted inspections of several parks, including Yoga Theme Park in PM Palem, Madhurawada, Sports Park in Bakkannapalem, Nandu Park in Madhurawada, and Farm Garden Theme Park in Gollala Yendada. During these visits, Commissioner Varma emphasised the importance of timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
At Yoga Theme Park, landscaping enhancements are underway with the planting of low-maintenance saplings and installation of statues depicting yoga postures. Additionally, the park will feature walking tracks, water fountains, a gym, yoga zones, a children’s play area, and toilets, creating a holistic wellness and recreational space.
Bakkannapalem Sports Park is receiving renovations to include shuttle badminton, basketball, and volleyball courts, catering to the diverse sporting interests of the community. Following the commissioner’s instructions, a kabaddi court will be replaced with a children’s playground, ensuring that younger residents have a dedicated area for safe and enjoyable play.
Commissioner Varma also directed officials to expedite the renovation of Shivaji Park, including walking tracks, water fountains, a gym, yoga zones, a children’s play area, and toilets. This renovation is set to transform Sivaji Park into a vibrant hub for fitness, recreation, and social interaction.
GVMC has entrusted the maintenance of the revamped parks to the respective resident welfare associations, fostering a sense of ownership and community engagement. The corporation remains steadfast in its commitment to providing these revitalised green spaces for public enjoyment by December 15, contributing to the overall well-being and quality of life for Visakhapatnam residents.
