In a swift response to the flooding, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has initiated a comprehensive home delivery programme to ensure essential commodities reach those impacted by the disaster. GVMC Commissioner Dr P Sampath Kumar announced the initiative, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing timely relief to flood victims. “With the collaborative efforts of the National Disaster Response Force, police, and secretariat secretaries, we are ensuring that essential supplies are delivered directly to the homes of those affected,” he stated.
The distribution commenced on Monday in Vijayawada’s 64th Ward, Kandrika, under the supervision of the State Women and Child Welfare Department Managing Director, Venugopal Reddy. Local legislators, including Peddapuram MLA N Chinarajappa, personally distributed supplies to flood-affected families in areas such as SC Bose Nagar, Prajashakti Nagar, and Maduranagar.
“Our primary objective is to provide the necessary support to all victims during this difficult time,” MLA Chinarajappa affirmed. “The home delivery initiative is one of the key measures we have implemented to ensure their well-being.”
Commissioner Dr Sampath Kumar further detailed the ongoing efforts to restore normalcy in the affected areas. “We have identified damaged power poles and are working diligently with the concerned power department officials to repair them,” he added. Legislators have instructed authorities to conduct thorough inspections of the affected areas and ensure that all essential services, including food, water, and electricity, are promptly restored to meet the needs of the flood victims.
