The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been recognised for its outstanding public awareness initiatives. GVMC has secured the first prize in the Best Public Awareness Programme category at the 2024 National Level Awards of the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI). GVMC officials, including Additional Commissioner DV Ramanamurthy and Public Relations Officer N Nageswara Rao, received the award during the 46th All India Public Relations Conference held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh the other day.
GVMC Commissioner Dr P Sampath Kumar emphasised the corporation’s dedication to transforming Visakhapatnam into a clean, green, and aesthetically pleasing city. Initiatives such as Eco-Vizag, Swachh Survekshan, seasonal disease control, waste segregation, home composting, community gardening, water conservation, and the elimination of single-use plastic items have contributed to improving the city’s environmental quality and actively engaged the public in environmental and health awareness campaigns.
Dr. Sampath Kumar expressed his gratitude to the residents of Visakhapatnam, including the Mayor, ward corporators, public representatives, and various organisations, for their active participation and cooperation in achieving this prestigious national recognition. Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari stated that this award serves as a testament to the GVMC’s commitment to public service and its successful efforts in raising public awareness on crucial environmental and health issues.
