Minister for Finance and Health T Harish Rao has said that Siddipet has become an educational hub and also a hub of reservoirs. The town has medical, veterinary, agriculture colleges and the B Pharmacy College is going to be inaugurated in the town on September 13.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Women’s agricultural degree college in Tornala, conceived at a cost of Rs 48 crore, in the rural mandal of Siddipet on Wednesday, he said that he has been trying for the past four years to set up the agricultural degree college here. The town, which once faced acute drinking water shortage, has now become home to several reservoirs.
Prior to statehood to Telangana, there was not even one residential college. But, the state now has 80. The number of residential schools in the state has increased to 1,012 from 682 in the united AP. The strength of the students increased from 1.94 lakh to that of 7.50 lakh students in the residential schools.
Successive governments that ruled united AP did not start at least one degree college here, he remarked. The budget for residential education in Telangana prior to 2014 was Rs 970 crore as against the current Rs 4,000 crore.
The Residential School for BC students is on the anvil in two or three days, he said.
Telangana has emerged as the number one paddy producer State in the country replacing Punjab, he said.
The state also topped the charts in producing doctors. As per the WHO norms, there should be one doctor for every population of 1,000. The number of doctors in Telangana now is put at 4,000. People from various countries arrive here to get themselves treated, he said, adding that most of the organ transplant surgeries take place in Hyderabad.
If one acre is sold in Telangana, one can buy five acres in Andhra Pradesh, he said, adding that it was vice versa earlier.
TSEWIDC Chairman Ravula Sridhar Reddy, District Collector Prashant Jeevan Patil, agriculture department officials and elected people’s representatives were present.
