Senior BRS leader Harish Rao strongly condemned Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s statement on water distribution and accused him of hypocrisy and deception.
Addressing the media at Siddipet, Harish said that while Chandrababu claims that he stands for justice for both states, his actions contradict his words.
He criticised the Andhra Pradesh Government for blocking Telangana’s irrigation projects and attempting to illegally divert water. He asserted that both Chandrababu and Jagan Mohan Reddy had conspired against Telangana’s water rights.
Harish pointed out that despite Telangana having eight Congress MPs, eight BJP MPs, and two Union Ministers, none of them had effectively protected the state’s interests.
He accused the BJP of backing Chandrababu’s conspiracies at the Centre while Chief Minister Revanth remained a mute spectator.
Harish emphasized that only the BRS had consistently fought for Telangana’s water rights and challenged Chandrababu to prove his sincerity by writing to the Centre that Andhra Pradesh had no objections to Telangana’s irrigation projects.
He accused Chandrababu of misleading people by claiming he had no objections to the Kaleshwaram Project while simultaneously working to block it. He presented letters sent in 2018 in which Chandrababu had objected to the project.
He said that Andhra Pradesh was over-utilizing Krishna water by drawing 655 TMCs instead of its allocated 512 TMCs, while Telangana received only 220 TMCs out of its rightful share of 343 TMCs. He accused the BJP and Chandrababu of using their influence in New Delhi to sabotage Telangana’s water demands.
He also criticised the diversion of Krishna water through the Nagarjuna Sagar, causing a severe drinking water shortage and irrigation crisis in Telangana, affecting projects like Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu, Koil Sagar and Bheema.
He said that Chandrababu should immediately withdraw objections to Telangana’s pending projects like the Sitamma Sagar, Sammakka Sagar, Varada and the third phase of the Kaleshwaram Project.
Harish also called for an end to the legal hurdles placed in the way of the Palamuru and Dindi lift irrigation schemes.
