The upper air cyclonic circulation observed over Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday now lies over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Coastal Andhra Pradesh at approximately 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Another upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the southeast Bay of Bengal and is now observed between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting south-westwards with height. A trough extends from this system to central Coastal Andhra Pradesh at the same altitude range and also tilts south-westwards.
The upper air cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Coastal Andhra Pradesh has merged with this trough system. Under the influence of these weather systems, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Rayalaseema on May 19.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–60 km/h) are expected at isolated places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema over the next five days.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at a few or isolated places across Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during the next seven days.
Rainfall occurred at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at a few places in Rayalaseema during the past 24 hours. The highest maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius was recorded at Tirupati in Rayalaseema, the report added.
Meanwhile, a heavy downpour disrupted normal life in Kurnool on Saturday evening. The rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, led to waterlogging on several thoroughfares, with knee-deep water in many areas. Drains overflowed, adding to the woes of residents. AP Disaster Management Authority MD Ronanki Kurmanath stated that rain is likely to occur at several places in Nandyal, Kadapa, Annamayya, and Tirupati districts.
