Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh from May 26 to 29, according to the Meteorological Centre.
In its daily weather report issued on Sunday, the Centre said similar conditions are expected in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on May 26, 27, and 28, and in Rayalaseema on May 27 and 28.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph are also likely at isolated places across North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema during the next five days.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many or a few places in these regions over the next seven days. Rainfall has already occurred at a few places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at one or two places in Rayalaseema.
The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into more areas of the west central and east central Arabian Sea, parts of Karnataka, the entire state of Goa, sections of Maharashtra, additional parts of the west central and North Bay of Bengal, and parts of Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland.
Favourable conditions persist for further advancement of the monsoon into more areas of the central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra (including Mumbai), Karnataka (including Bengaluru), parts of Andhra Pradesh, remaining areas of Tamil Nadu, and additional regions of the Northeastern states over the next three days.
The report also mentioned an upper air trough extending from the east central Arabian Sea to north Odisha via central Maharashtra, north Telangana, and south Chhattisgarh. This trough lies between 1.5 km and 4.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwards with height. Furthermore, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the west central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around May 27, the Centre added.
