Heavy rain threw normal life out of gear in Kadapa and Kurnool districts and caused huge damage to crops.

Heavy rain lashed for a few hours in YSR and Kurnool districts on the night of Saturday. All the main thoroughfares and roads were inundated in two feet of water in Kadapa city throwing normal life out of gear.

The RTC bus station, garage, and bus depot were inundated in two feet of water. All the streams, rivulets, and nalas were overflowing due to heavy rains in the catchment areas.

The highest rainfall was recorded at Jammalamadugu, Mylavaram, Peddamudium and Kondapuram. The rainwater inundated Gundlakunta village in Peddamudium mandal. The village was struck in flood water for several hours and MLC Rama Subba Reddy visited the village.

Crops including paddy, cotton, chilli, black gram, and horticulture crops including plantain, and curry leaf were marooned in the flood water. The farmers appealed to the government to take steps to enumerate the loss and disburse money.

Meanwhile, the timely action of officials saved the lives of 13 RTC bus passengers at Jammalamadugu. An RTC bus was struck in the middle of heavy flood water of theHeavy rain Isukavagu rivulet at S Uppalapadu village on the night of Saturday. There were 13 passengers on the bus which was going to Jammalamadugu via Proddatur from Kurnool. The SDRF and fire brigade personnel led by CI U Sadashivaiah rescued the bus passengers. SP KKN Anburajan appreciated the CI for his swift response and for rescuing the passengers.

The Sagileru reservoir in the YSR district was receiving heavy inflows and water was being discharged by lifting a crest gate.

In the Kurnool district, heavy rain lashed Nandikotkur, Dhone, Adoni, Chagalamarri, and other areas, The Vakkileru was overflowing with flood water at Chagalamarri mandal. The vehicular traffic was disrupted as the Yerravanka stream swelled at Shettiveedu village.

Crops on over 1000 acres including black gram, paddy, cotton, Chilli, and maize marooned in the flood water. The Upputeru rivulet is in spate in Prakasam district due to heavy rains in the Nallamala forest area. The police rescued two youths while washing away in the Upputeru stream at Kondapeta. The highest rainfall 6.65 cm recorded at Rayachoti and 66.2 cm was recorded at Chitwel in Annamayya district.
