KTR calls out opposition parties

With heavy rains lashing Telangana, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao directed officials to focus on low-lying areas as he visited Hussainsagar to check out the water level on Thursday.

“Due to heavy rains in Telangana, there is water stagnation in low-lying areas. Traffic congestion is also a problem. However, officials are trying to save lives. The traffic is less today as educational institutions have been given a holiday,” KT Ramarao said.

He asked opposition parties to help out the public instead of politicking. He asked them not to engage in petty criticism which demoralises government employees who are working tirelessly.

KTR held a teleconference with the department’s officials and Additional Collectors. He also instructed officials to immediately evacuate people from dilapidated buildings. He said that measures would be taken in towns experiencing water stagnation.

KTR said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is regularly reviewing the rain situation in the State and added that the Chief Minister spoke to Municipal Administration department officials too.He said that the GHMC Commissioner, all top officials and staff have been working relentlessly. Disaster Response Force (DRF) officials too have been working tirelessly. KTR said that all leaves of Municipal Department employees have been cancelled.

Listing out works completed till now, he said that de-silting has been completed in Hyderabad, and the strengthening of lakes has been taken up. Gates have been fitted on 135 ponds.

KTR said that compared to the past, the impact of floods is less this year in many city areas as the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) has been executed. The government machinery is working round-the-clock to face the rains, he said.
