Minister for Civil Supplies Nadendla Manohar has urged edible oil importers and traders to cooperate with the government in reducing oil prices in the open market.
During a meeting with edible oil importers and traders on Friday, Minister Manohar stated that the government is selling palm oil at ?110 and sunflower oil at ?124 per litre at subsidised prices due to the steep rise in oil prices. He emphasised that the government’s initiative to sell edible oils at subsidised rates aims to provide relief to the common people, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
The Minister appealed to importers and traders to continue selling edible oils at subsidised prices until market rates decrease. He also encouraged oil importers to bring in larger quantities of edible oils to bridge the demand-supply gap.
Additionally, Minister Nadendla Manohar expressed dissatisfaction with red gram wholesale traders for their lack of cooperation in selling the commodity at the subsidised prices set by the government. He pointed out that the government buys red gram at market prices and sells it at subsidised rates to offer relief to consumers amid soaring prices.
The Minister warned that action would be taken against traders who fail to supply red gram to the government while maintaining quality standards. He also invited them to discuss any issues they might be facing in supplying red gram to the government. Civil Supplies Commissioner Veerapandyan and Managing Director Manjir Jilani were also present at the meeting.
