Himayath Sagar’s gates opened due to heavy inflows

The twin reservoirs of Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar are getting flooded due to the rains in their upper reaches in the last two days. The two gates of the Himayat Sagar reservoir were opened on Friday by Water Board officials.

The two gates of the reservoir are being raised by a foot to release flood water downstream. Currently, there is an inflow of 1200 cusecs and an outflow of 700 cusecs into Himayat Sagar.

Meanwhile, 700 cusecs of water are flowing into the Osman Sagar (Gandipet) reservoir. The total capacity of the reservoir is 3.9 TMC and currently, it has 2.760 TMC water. The full level water level is 1,790 feet and the current level is 1,785.15 feet.

As the gates of the reservoirs were opened and water released downstream, HMWSSB MD Danakishore ordered Water Board officials as well as the Hyderabad and Rangareddy district administrations, the GHMC and the police to be on alert.
