As a severe storm looms over the Bay of Bengal, Andhra Pradesh State Home Minister Anitha Vangalapudi has intensified preparations to safeguard lives and property. In a teleconference with district collectors, the minister directed all relevant departments to be on high alert.
Following warnings from the weather department, the Home and Disaster Management Department is working tirelessly to ensure that all necessary precautions are in place. The minister emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts, stating, “We are leaving no stone unturned in preparing for this storm. Protecting lives and minimizing property damage is our top priority.”
The Disaster Management Department has issued advisories to fishermen, farmers, and shepherds, urging them to stay indoors over the next two days. Minister Anita stressed, “It’s crucial that people avoid venturing out during this period. We have sent out alert messages and notifications to ensure everyone remains informed and safe.”
In districts expected to face heavy rains, including Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, and Nandyala, the Home Minister has instructed collectors to maintain a high level of vigilance. “Moderate to heavy rainfall is predicted, and we are taking every necessary measure to avoid disruptions,” she added.  In addition, the Home Minister has ordered constant communication with the Disaster Department to monitor canals and waterways and prevent flooding. Authorities are also urging the public to avoid areas prone to flooding and stay away from power poles, wires, trees, and hoardings.
In a separate development, Minister Anita made a surprise visit to Visakhapatnam beach to assess public safety measures. With the holiday crowds swelling due to the weekend and Dussehra festivities, she reviewed the arrangements made for the safety of tourists and locals. “I instructed the police to enhance surveillance with CCTV cameras to monitor any suspicious activity,” she said, following her discussions with the police. The minister expressed confidence that the combined efforts of all key departments would ensure the public’s safety during this critical period. “We are well-prepared, and I urge everyone to cooperate by following the guidelines issued by authorities,” she concluded.
