Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj said that 525 candidates are contesting for the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the State. Out of them, 425 candidates are male and 50 female.
On Wednesday, Vikas Raj spoke to the media at BRK Bhavan in Hyderabad where he said that from April 18 to 25 about 893 candidates have filed 1,488 nominations. Out of those, 428 nomination papers have been rejected and 100 candidates have withdrawn their nominations. From among the 525 candidates, a total of 125 candidates are independents.
“A total of 155 CAPF companies will be deployed for the election. Already, the first phase has come and second phase will come soon. In all, 60,000 police personnel, including uniformed batches from other services will be deployed for the election. Adding to that, 20,000 personnel will be deployed from other states also,” Vikas Raj mentioned.
Highest candidates are contesting from Secunderabad constituency with 45 and lowest is in Adilabad segment with 12 candidates. Seven constituencies require three ballot units (BU), nine constituencies require two BU and one constituency needs only one BU, which is Adilabad.
A total of 23,248 voters would franchise their votes at their homes. Home voting will be held between May 3 and 6.
Vikas Raj requested the candidates to appoint the party’s Booth-Level Agents (BLA) so they can follow the Booth Level Officers when they go for distribution of voter information slips. Many of the candidates have not appointed their BLAs.
In all, 192 approvals have been given to the political parties for advertisements, 1,227 complaints have been received from the 1950 call centres and 5,232 permissions given through Suvidha.
A total of 3,32,32,318 voters are going to cast their vote for the Lok Sabha elections. Out of them, 1,65,28,366 are male voters, 1,67,01,192 are female and 2,760 are third gender voters. Among them, 9,20,313 are aged between 18 to 19 years, 1,93,754 voters are senior citizens and 5,27,486 are people with disabilities (PwD) in the State.
