The Met has predicted rising temperatures in the weeks ahead after India experienced its hottest February after 1901.
Hot weather has hit Telangana with the temperature touching 41.9°C in the northern parts of the state for the first time this summer. Nerella and Dharmapuri in Jagitial recorded 41.7°C on Monday.
Hyderabad too witnessed a spike in temperature with Gachibowli recording the highest temp of 38.3°C while Khairtabad recorded 37.8°C.
The IMD said that a yellow alert has been issued for the entire state as temperatures are expected to range from 36°C to 40°C.
Heat waves are expected in Adilabad, Nirmal, Komarambheem and Mancherial districts. In Sircilla and Jagtial temperatures will range from 41°C to 45°C on Thursday and Friday.
The Met predicts that coming days will be hotter. With dry air increasing, temperatures have started to rise all over Telangana from Monday. The North, East and Southern TS will witness hot weather.
The TSDPS said that a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3°C to 4°C is expected in the next three days.
Mahesh Palwat of Skymet Weather said, “Summer will be normal for South India as there will be on and off rains. North West and Central India will face a severe heat wave. In Telangana, in April and May there will be isolated heat waves in between on and off rains.
Pre-monsoon rains are not very common in South India. But due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, heat waves won’t be as severe as in Central and North India. Temperatures were 1.5 degrees more than the normal in 1901.”
“In Telangana heat will increase from Monday. With dry air increasing, the time has come for temperatures to rise all over Telangana. North, East and South TS will witness hot weather. There will be rain only in East Telangana but that will be very less. Other areas will be mostly dry,” said weatherman T. Balaji.
