Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy has announced that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy aims to allocate residential plots to government employees in both urban and semi-urban areas. The Chief Secretary conducted a comprehensive review of the initiative at his camp office in Vijayawada on Saturday. During the meeting, he advised the Special Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department, G Sai Prasad, and the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) to assess the land requirements for these house sites. Furthermore, he instructed them to collaborate with representatives from employee unions and associations in order to compile a comprehensive report. Chief Secretary Dr. KS Jawahar Reddy stated that the Chief Minister will evaluate progress within the next ten days.
Emphasizing the importance of addressing homelessness and informal settlements in urban areas, the Chief Secretary urged officials to concentrate on formulating a public housing policy.
This policy aims to provide suitable accommodation for individuals currently residing in temporary structures along government-owned spaces such as roads, footpaths, canals, and drains within urban localities. By facilitating the transition to government-constructed housing units under the public housing system, the Chief Secretary envisions enhancing the aesthetic appeal of urban centers.
In pursuit of this objective, Dr. Jawahar Reddy directed the revenue and municipal departments to conduct thorough evaluations across all towns and furnish a comprehensive report for the upcoming meeting with the Chief Minister.
In coordination with employee unions, G Sai Prasad, the Special Chief Secretary of the State Revenue Department, committed to gathering pertinent details regarding housing requirements for government employees and subsequently submitting a detailed report.
The meeting was attended by R Mutyala Raju, the State Chief Minister’s Secretary, Dr. Lakmisha, Managing Director of the House Construction Company, Aleem Bhasha, Additional Commissioner of CRDA, and other relevant officials.
