The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) on Thursday issued contempt of court notices to the Principal Secretary of Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department (HM&FW), and the in-charge Director of Medical Education (DME) for failing to adhere to the interim suspension order issued by the High Court of Telangana.
The contempt of court notices were sent to Syed Ali Murtaza Rizvi, Principal Secretary, HM&FW, and Dr K Ramesh Reddy, who is serving as the in-charge Director of Medical Education. The notices were issued by the HRDA President, Dr K Mahesh Kumar.
The letter read that despite the suspension of his appointment, Dr Ramesh Reddy has been actively performing the functions of the Director of Medical Education, which amounts to contempt of the court’s order. The HRDA alleged that Dr Ramesh Reddy has issued various letters and notifications related to the recruitment of Assistant Professors in the Director of Medical Education, which are considered invalid and non-compliant with the law after the court’s interim order.
The HRDA further said that the Principal Secretary Murtaza Rizvi is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the court’s order by preventing Dr Ramesh Reddy from discharging the functions of the Director of Medical Education and filling the post in accordance with the law. However, the HRDA alleges that the Principal Secretary has failed to fulfill his responsibilities.
HRDA president Dr Mahesh plans to file a contempt of court case soon after the vacations to hold the government officials accountable for disregarding the interim suspension order issued by the Telangana government.
The HRDA had urged the appointment of a regular Director of Medical Education as per the Andhra Pradesh Medical Education Service Rules.
