Hyd Police, peace panel confer to address religious sensitivities

In a move aimed at reinforcing communal harmony, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, CV Anand, held an interactive session with members of the Central Peace and Welfare Committee from various zones across the city at TGC&CC in Banjara Hills. The meeting focused on recent sensitive religious issues and explored ways to prevent potential disturbances.
Joining the discussion were senior police officials, including Vikram Singh Mann, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) and Chairman of the Peace Committee, along with P Viswa Prasad, Additional Commissioner of Traffic, and several Deputy Commissioners.
Approximately 350 committee members, including general secretary Srikishan Sharma and patron Hafiz Muzaffar Hussain, participated in the session. They collectively condemned any attempts to disrupt communal harmony and stressed the importance of respectful dialogue among Hyderabad’s diverse communities. The group acknowledged the role of the Peace Committee in bridging communication between residents and law enforcement to effectively resolve grievances and prevent misunderstandings.
During the meeting, Anand called for a proactive approach in identifying and addressing potential flashpoints. He encouraged the committee members to serve as ‘ambassadors of peace’ within their communities, fostering trust and cooperation. Anand emphasised, “Hyderabad’s peaceful atmosphere is a collective responsibility and with the committee’s support, we can ensure timely intervention during any unexpected situation.”
The committee proposed a range of initiatives to promote communal understanding. These include community engagement programmes that promote tolerance and respect for diversity, educational workshops aimed at combating misinformation and awareness campaigns highlighting the dangers of rumours that may stoke communal tensions. The group also discussed plans for workshops that bring together people from different backgrounds to engage in constructive discussions and build mutual respect.
Furthermore, the Peace Committee pledged to support law enforcement efforts during upcoming festivals, ensuring events proceed smoothly without disruptions. Members also expressed a commitment to combating anti-social activities that harm the social fabric of the city.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintaining Hyderabad as a city where all communities coexist peacefully. The committee members affirmed their dedication to upholding the city’s reputation as a safe, inclusive space and pledged ongoing collaboration with law enforcement to address future challenges.
