Must read

City-based startup, Scrappay aims to reduce plastic waste through Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Speaking of the initiative, Arramraju Sharath Kumar, the technical lead at Scrap pay said, “The idea is to reduce plastic waste and use the discarded plastic for manufacturing sustainable products. The team created a working model based on the idea, just a month before the one -day Hexathon competition.”

The initiative comprises four team members including Kumar, Kodavalla Krishnaveni, the Principal Software Developer and two other software developers Kosuri Ravikrishna and CH Sathvik.

Explaining the basic features of the software, Kumar said, “Scrappay comprises a smart-bin which is AI-based disposal machine and a web dashboard which analyses the type of waste disposed of by the user. Currently, the dashboard can analyse plastic and glass waste and connect the user with the nearest recycling plant.”

“The web-dashboard analyses the type of waste and notifies us within no time.  It is currently being used in corporate offices and NGOs in areas including KPHB, Lingampally and Hytec City. The recycling plants reward these users based on the amount of waste generated by them. For instance, a user produces one kg of plastic waste, the plant will reward them with Rs 20,” Kumar explained.

The technical lead further said, “This is an initiative of Hexagon and the firm aims to help reduce the production of plastic by recycling the existing plastic waste. As of now, the emphasis is on plastic waste management and we plan to deal with scrapped vehicles later on.”
